Building Preservation

Dry Rot Treatment

The most common cause of dry rot is dampness within buildings of which we are the experts in providing appropriate remedy. In the eradication of dry rot, the first step is to eliminate the source of moisture by identifying and correcting the source of water penetration i.e. by repairing leaking roofs, plumbing, by drying damp areas.

We will then remove all the structurally unsound timber and replace it with pressure impregnated sections. Affected masonry surfaces may also be treated with a fungicidal solution.

If you have any queries regarding dampness or dry rot within your property then send us a message and one of the team will be happy to help.

Waterproofing

We have vast experience in the waterproofing and tanking of basements. Following an initial free survey of the property, we will discuss the client’s requirements and the variety of factors that can affect works. As well as the waterproofing, our service can include the upgrade of the property or restoration to its original state after damp roof works. All our treatments are guaranteed which is issued after the completion of our works once we have received full payment.

Have a look at our projects section where you will see recent examples of Damp Proof Treatments. If you require any further information then contact one of the team.

Cavity Wall Tie Repair

Thousands of buildings across Scotland suffer from wall tie corrosion or wall tie failure and are subsequently in need of specialist remedial wall tie replacement. This common defect is usually caused during poor installation or lack of wall ties during the properties construction phase.

A range of alternative wall tie designs are available: resin, drive tie or cementitious. The design which is used depends on the type and condition of the masonry involved. In most cases, the existing ties are isolated to prevent further corrosion. Our Surveyors will complete a survey of the affected areas and provide a detailed report on the correct remedy and the associated costs. Are you seeing issues in your brickwork which suggest failed cavity wall ties? Contact WMR today and someone will be happy to help.

Condensation Control

Condensation occurs when warm damp air comes into contact with a cold surface or cool air. When moist air comes into contact with either colder air or a colder surface, the air is unable to retain the same amount of moisture and the water is released to form condensation. This can result in peeling decor, damage to fabrics and unpleasant musty damp smells occurring within a property. At its most severe condensation can even result in permanent damage to plaster and timber.

Due to the upgrades many buildings have had over the years to improve standard of living i.e. double glazing, central heating and improved insulation, condensation can become a more prevalent issue. Many of these upgrades have improved the buildings ability to retain heat and now lack appropriate levels of ventilation and airflow.

If you’re having problems with condensation in your home or property then send us a message. We can come to your property and provide a survey of the causes, recommend improvements and their costs. Improvements can vary depending on severity but include upgrades such as mechanical ventilation and passive ventilation systems to positive pressure systems.
